Welcome!
I'm glad you could stop by.
My name is Erin and I am the proud mama of a boy and girl. Some people call this the "Million Dollar Family". If they mean that this is how much these children are going to cost me, they're probably right. Otherwise I have no idea what they're talking about.
My first real foray into writing was when I wrote the family Christmas letter for my Mom back in 1995. It got FANMAIL people. I'm not even lying. Obviously, it is a short step from writing an awesome Christmas letter to writing a best-selling novel (this is the only way I can explain Stephenie Meyer), but I decided to go to law school instead. In the ten years since, I worked at three different law firms and a university before finding myself at my current gig, working for the Mayor. My life is what it would look like if Parks & Recreation and Modern Family had a baby sitcom. Minus Amy Poehler and Eric Stonestreet, unfortunately.
It's important for you to know that even though I work for the Mayor, this is my personal blog. What I write on here should in no way be construed as representing what the Mayor thinks or his official position on anything.
Having a family did not come as easily to my husband and I as we'd thought it would. That sucked, big time. I write about it sometimes, but not often.
I know a lot of random trivia and even landed an audition for Jeopardy. Since I've had kids, I've noticed that I don't remember things as easily as I used to, but it's not retroactive. This means that I may forget a child's doctor appointment but can tell you the birthday of every single New Kid (you know who the New Kids are, right?).
Balancing a job outside the home with two busy kids, a dog, and a husband is not always easy, but it is always interesting, and sometimes - most times - even pretty awesome. Here is where I hope to highlight the good, the bad, and the ugly of being a Mom who works outside the home.
I also spend a considerable amount of time thinking about how I can raise kids who are engaged in building community and in making the world around them a better place. I like to talk about things we've done to try to raise kids with a social conscience, and enjoy getting feedback about what others have done toward the same goal.
You can follow my every day adventures on Twitter @erinchrusch. I promise not to spam your feed or make a lot of noise.
You can also email me at workmomchronicles(at)gmail(dot)com with any comments or questions. I'd love to hear from you!
